It boasts four great-sounding HDDA mic preamps with +48V phantom power, high-quality 24-bit/96kHz A/D, and a rock-steady TCXO internal clock. The DR-701D’s built-in 6-track mixer accommodates four individual tracks, along with a 2-channel stereo mix — all of which can be simultaneously recorded. Pan and level adjustments enable you to balance your mix, while a delay function minimizes phase issues by compensating for the distances between your microphones. Mid-side decoding is also on tap. This onboard processing goes a long way in creating polished, studio-quality recordings.

The TASCAM DR-701D is a great choice for modern Virtual Reality production. This feature-laden portable recorder boasts extensive Ambisonics support, including A and B format encoding, while providing you with a real-time stereo monitor mix of B format content through the DR-701D’s headphone and line output. The DR-710D also supports AmbiX and FuMa for B format recording, plus selectable mic positioning for flexible setting of your Ambisonics mic (upright/upside down/end fire).

Capturing amazing-sounding location recordings with the DR-701D couldn’t be easier. The DR-701D’s HDMI port synchronizes its internal clock with your video camera for perfectly sync’d audio and video, while 1-button recording enables no-fuss single-operator shoots. A built-in SMPTE generator allows your camera and the DR-710D to store the same location reference — a time-saving feature that you’ll never want to live without! The DR-710D’s four preamps can be adjusted and recorded independently, permitting you to combine shotgun mics, lavaliers, and more to suit your shot capture. You also get a 3.5mm stereo input, along with a built-in stereo omnidirectional microphone that makes capturing ambience a piece of cake. To top it off, you get a slate tone generator to make alignment in post-production easier, plus a dual-recording function that allows simultaneous recording of two duplicate files, but with one -6dB to -12dB lower than the main track. You’ll never have a take ruined by unexpected volume spikes again!
